I recently had an argument with a friend about which music had no talent, and he tried to tell me that rock/metal has no talent involved and that it takes more skill to make a rap song. The last rap group that I remember actually making studio music with instruments not computers was the Beastie Boys, yet every rock and metal album is still made with the good ol’ guitar, bass, and drums. Randy Rhoads… please make the argument that he does not have talent. Then look at the vocalists, rappers are talking into the mic where singers like Kurt Cobain, Layne Staley, and Amy Lee put their heart and soul into the lyrics they SING, not say really fast. When these artists are live, at a rap/hip-hop show there may be more dancing, sure, but at a metal show it is almost crazy enough to involve police in riot gear.
Next time you think talking fast to a computer created beat is harder than a shredding solo off of Eddie Van Halen’s guitar… talk to the wall.
